Advice and Support in Educating Your Children at Home

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope this message finds you and your children safe and well. With the changes in our current climate, the staff at Wesley want to ensure we provide you with as much support as possible in continuing your child's education at home.

In addition to the paper home learning packs which have already been sent home with your child, this page aims to provide you with a range of additional support, including: suggested timetables and routines, online programmes that are used at school already and links to many other companies that are now offering parent access for free.

White Rose Maths (linked below) has produced planning for parents at home. This is the same scheme we use to plan our Maths at school and will therefore be very familiar to your child. Each lesson includes a teaching video, accompanying worksheet and answers! There will be 5 new lessons per year group uploaded each week.

In addition to this, your child's 'Bug Club' log in now gives them access to online reading books AND online spelling and grammar activities.

Please remember that how you plan your day with your child must suit you and your household. The timetables, suggestions and guides provided are for you to use at your own discretion.

In addition to this, remember that there is a lot of learning that can take place by just talking, playing and going about daily tasks with your child e.g. reading, measuring and calculating when cooking and baking, sorting colours for washing loads for younger children, counting anything and everything - in 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 8s, 15s  forwards, backwards, upside down - the list is endless, hunting for shapes around the house, budgeting - set up a mini snack shop and given your child a budget to spend for the day giving them the opportunity to calculate change as they go and finally, never underestimate the educational value of simply snuggling up together on the couch with a great book.

Teachers will be maintaining contact with the parents and children of their class either via Class Dojo (if your class has parent log ins for this) or via their class page of this website and will try to help and support you through this difficult time as best they can.

Most importantly, be sure to take care of yourselves and each other.
