Y3/4 Invade York!

18th Mar 2019

We had a brilliant day at the Jorvik Viking Centre in York last week. We started the day examining remains of Viking settlements through the glass floor we were stood on! Shortly after, we went on an underground ride which transported us around a Viking village. This allowed us a glimpse into everyday Viking life through cleverly recreated scenes that used moving dummies.

Later that morning, we examined Viking artefacts including an antler, a skeleton, tools, utensils, coins (which we saw being made) and even a Viking's poo!

After a very quick lunch (so much to do!) we went to 'Dig' where the pupils got to be archaeologists, excavating a site and unearthing some real treasures from the past.

To end the day, we had a talk by a Viking warrior who showed us battle techniques and armoury. The children were very well behaved and a great day out was had by all.
