Year 5D

Hello, and welcome to year 5D's class page.

We've got a busy year planned and are looking forward to welcoming the children back to school.

To start the year, we are looking at 2 books in English to help ease the children back in to school and to have an opportunity to show off the fantastic skills they learnt in their last class and during lockdown!

"What Do You Do With An Idea?" explores what we should (and shouldn't!) do when we have those flashes of inspiration!

"What Do You Do With A problem?" helps us to learn about our worries and what to do when these start to become clouds.

Each week I will send home a newsletter which will give you a little insight into what we have been getting up to in class including our maths learning points and topic areas.

This half term our topic is "Ancient Greece" and we will cover lots of history, art and geography in our learning.

We are also learning to make an adventure game using coding with Mr Lonsdale on a Monday.

In music - we're learning all about British Pop and are taking part in a whole school band.

P.E. is on Tuesdays with the coach. The children are asked to come in their full P.E. kit on that day (dark blue or black tracksuit please).

On Wednesdays I will lead a P.E. session that will concentrate on some activities to get us (including me) used to being active again! On a Wednesday children should come in wearing pumps or trainers with their normal uniform.

Homework and Reading

After we have assessed the children we will send school reading books home. We ask that the children read a small section each night and that this recorded by themselves or you in their reading diary. Signed diaries = lots of dojos!

Homework will be sent out most weeks but I will always post this on Class Dojo in case it goes missing! Although homework is not compulsory, it does give the children a good opportunity to either practice what they've learnt in that week or prepare for a new week's learning.

Spelling - I will assign a list each week on spelling frame and there will be a test complete online - again this is not compulsory but gives the children the chance to not only earn dojos but practice the words we are concentrating on in handwriting.

Finally the children have logins for various websites stuck into their reading diaries.

Prodigy will target the maths objectives we are learning in class

TTrockstars which all the children should try to access regularly to build up their times table knowledge

Spelling Frame as mentioned above

Bug Club  to access more books and grammar activities

Duo Lingo  a new website to help the children practice their French skills!

Class Dojo

I will regularly share news on the dojo class page and it is one of the best ways to get in touch with me if you need to. If you do not have access please let me know and I can send you a code.

Fridays - Mrs Lonsdale teaches the children on a Friday. If there is anything urgent on a Friday, please contact the school office.

My email -

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns!

I hope that the children have a fantastic year!
